NIS2 Directive and the impact on domain holders
Learn how the NIS2 Directive requires domain verification and what you need to do to avoid their suspension.

In the last quarter of 2024, the NIS2 Directive came into force, a new European regulation aimed at improving cybersecurity in the member states of the European Union. It imposes new obligations on various entities, including domain registries (such as .ro domains managed by the ROTLD registry), regarding the verification and maintenance of the accuracy of domain holder information.
Starting from October 18, 2024, Hostico has initiated the process of notifying all customers whose domains are marked by the domain registry for verification. The purpose of this endeavor is to ensure compliance with the new European requirements and to prevent any issues related to data inaccuracy.
If you are subject to verification and you receive a notification from us regarding this, we recommend that you send us the necessary documents as soon as possible. Failure to comply with this process may result in the suspension of the domain, and for certain extensions, even permanent deletion. To avoid such situations, it is important to respond promptly to any request for data verification.
For clients who manage multiple domains, validation may be required for several extensions, as each ccTLD is managed by a separate registry. Thus, validation carried out within one registry will not directly result in verifying the data for all owned extensions.
Important: In the context of the NIS2 directive, as well as the obligation to submit tax invoices in the national invoicing system eFactura, we emphasize the importance of providing correct and real data for contracting services within Hostico.
If there are any uncertainties regarding the new provisions on maintaining valid information, the Hostico team is at your disposal.
