I received an email from ROTLD regarding the maintenance fee. What does this mean?
Receiving an email from ROTLD regarding the maintenance fee signifies the need to renew the .ro domain. Check the registration and renewal options!
Maintenance fee is the term used for the domain renewal fee. In the past, .ro domains could be purchased with a one-time fee, which guaranteed the indefinite operation of the domain. However, the new ROTLD regulations, which came into effect on 01.03.2018, have changed this mode of operation. .ro domains must now be registered or renewed for a fixed period, ranging from 1 to 10 years.
Once this period is over, the domain must be paid again to ensure its functionality. If you receive a message regarding the maintenance fee, it is important to check where the respective domain is registered and to ensure that you have the possibility to renew or transfer it to another registrar before expiration.
In the case of .ro domains registered or transferred to Hostico, the renewal invoice will be issued two weeks before the due date. If you want to transfer the .ro domain to Hostico, the necessary steps are detailed in the tutorial: Transfer domain .ro.
